Fossil Grove reopening

Sunday 17th April 2011
Fossil Grove in Victoria Park Glasgow reopening event on 16th April 2011
The exhibit was opened to the public in the newly refurbished building with the exciting addition of a large screen behind the fossil area showing a slide show of artists impressions of how the site would have looked in Carboniferous times.
To mark the event an additional exhibition was organised by Katerina Braun at the entrance to fossil grove .
This included fun for adults and children with hands on activities such as
'core drilling' with straws to find the 'coal' seam in jelly mould terranes
digging for fossils in sand
careful uncovering of 'dinosaur' bones from clay and
creating their own fossil casts from a selection of moulds.
There were also excellent displays of fossils ,maps, photos and descriptive posters showing the history of the area.
Throughout the day two to three hundred people visited the exhibition enjoying the activities and taking great interest in the exhibits . The volunteers helping Katerina on the day were kept very busy and had a lot of fun sharing their enthusiasm with everyone.
Many thanks to Katerina for all the time and effort involved in organising such an enjoyable and successful day.
