About Opportunity
With input from Glasgow University Huntarian Museum, local experts and volunteers will undertake research and propose restoration works for the Rouken Glen Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Where feasible, small scale works to uncover more of the rock will be carried out by volunteers (guided by experts). Volunteers will be given an introduction to geodiversity and fossil recording and identification techniques. Practical work emerging from the project will begin with the completion of a desk top study to record baseline data on the geodiversity within Rouken Glen Park. To allow further investigative work to take place, rock exposure and vegetation clearance will be undertaken and volunteers will receive training on various activities in advance of participating in vegetation clearance activities. This is a unique and exciting project for those with an interest in natural history. 1st meeting 10am on the 1st August 2011, the Pavillion Rouken Glen Park.
